Virtual Adoptions Make For Happy Tails

Since the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria started its virtual adoption process at the beginning of April, we have seen hundreds of animals find families to call their own. By going virtual, we are still able to find families for homeless animals while keeping staff and adopters at a safe physical distance, from virtual meet-and-greets over Zoom to the curbside pick-up as a pet is brought to their new family’s car. In a time when having a companion at home can make such a difference, we recognized the importance of continuing our adoption process, and here are the Happy Tails stories of just a few of those adoptions.

Annie

Virtual Adoptions Make For Happy TailsSenior Annie made a big impression on her friends at the AWLA. From her bed of choice – a wicker basket with a blanket – to her polite but insistent requests for attention, Annie let her personality shine. And her sweetness made an impression on her new best friend when they first met in a video meeting because Annie headed home shortly after that! Annie’s family describes her as cuddly and affectionate, and she wasted no time in finding her favorite napping spots (right next to her people), her favorite bird watching locations and another new best friend – her soft-bristled brush.

Kelce

Virtual Adoptions Make For Happy TailsOur virtual adoption process has helped animals of all ages find their families, including Kelce, formerly known as Plank, and his 11 puppy siblings! While Kelce and his siblings enjoyed their time at the AWLA, he seems pretty content now as part of his family. Being one of 12 means never having a dull moment, but now Kelce is the baby of the family. That means he enjoys all of the toys, treats and attention and always gets a spot on the couch!

Caramel and Ollie

Virtual Adoptions Make For Happy TailsBest friends Caramel and Ollie have always liked to keep on the move. Exercise is a big part of their day and they were looking for a family that could keep up! Luckily they found just that person through our virtual adoption process and headed home before they could say “wheek!” While they still barely pause for a photo, this pig pair now loves the time they get to spend with their family, who they are always rushing forward to greet.

Simon

Virtual Adoptions Make For Happy TailsWhile at the AWLA, Simon loved the virtual adoption process. A virtual meet-and-greet meant a room full of toys where his job was to play and show off his sweet personality – talk about a fun time! After just a few Zoom meetings, Simon found his person and since heading home, he couldn’t be happier. Simon and his best friend are now always side by side, unless Simon is hogging the couch, in which case he needs a little more space for his nap. Simon’s days are still spent playing with his toys, going on long walks and snoozing away but now all next to his favorite person.
