Meet the Teacher: Sarah Behrens
Sarah is thrilled to join the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria as the Summer Camp Teacher. Combining her love of animals with her enthusiasm for teaching equals one exciting summer!
Sarah is an alumni of the University of Missouri. She was a special education coordinator and teacher for two urban Chicagoland public schools prior to moving to the DC area. She currently works in Virginia as a teacher for a school for students with social and communication support needs. Sarah has a variety of experiences working with a range of needs and ages through volunteering in school, community, camps, and recreation settings. She is passionate about fostering kids’ innovative thinking to have fun while learning and growing.
She loves animals and has two five-year-old cats, Miranda and Zoey. In addition to always having pets as part of her family, she has been a foster parent to dogs and cats, a pet sitter, and a dog walker.
She looks forward to using her various experiences along with campers’ interests and talents to discover all about the adoptable “residents” and resources of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
