A few months ago, several dogs were transferred to the AWLA by the Humane Society of the United States. The dogs had been rescued from hoarding case in rural Mississippi, and had spent most, if not all, of their lives living outdoors.
Mable was one of the dogs we received as a part this rescue. When she first arrived at the AWLA, she was visibly terrified of her new surroundings and spent most of her time huddled outside in the corner of her kennel.
Slowly, staff and volunteers began working to build trust with Mable. Eventually, she trusted us enough to let us leash her up and take her into the play yard, where she was reunited with some of the other dogs rescued with her, which helped her make even bigger strides in learning that her new life wasn’t so bad after all. It took a lot of time and patience, but Mablewas finally ready to be adopted!
She is still very scared of new people and places, and she had to start her training on a very basic level, but trust us, once she got to know her new family, they said she is one of the sweetest, most grateful dogs you’ve ever met, and everyday she returns all the love (and more!) that her new family is giving her.
