The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria helps all animals, including guinea pigs! Guinea pigs are cute, communicative, have distinct personalities and live longer than many other small pets (5-7 years on average). These South American rodents can be wonderful pets, but often end up in our shelter due to accidental litters or owners underestimating how much care guinea pigs require. We encourage anyone looking to add a guinea pig (or two) to their household to consider adopting a guinea pig in need of a home instead of purchasing from a pet store.
