Feeling Thankful for our Senior Pets

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, which gives all of us at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria just one more reason to share why we love our senior pets so much! Whether you love how your senior naps like a pro or how they surprise you with their puppy-like energy, senior pet owners know how special those golden years can be. We find homes for many senior animals each month but here are just a few who headed home to families to call their own this November.

Milo, 9 years old, was our first senior to be adopted this month, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t wait for that purrfect person to come along. As our, until recently, longest resident at the AWLA, Milo was with us and his foster family since this time in 2018. But shortly after his 2-year anniversary, Milo met his best friend over Zoom and is already settling in well!

Peanut, 12 years old, won the hearts of many his difficult journey, but thankfully the next chapter started on a happy note by heading home with a family to call his own. Thanks to our partners at True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, Peanut was able to recover from his past trauma, and during his time with us at the AWLA, he showed us just how much love he had to give as part of a loving family.

Garfield, 10 years old, didn’t wait long to meet his best friend, but he still made a big impression on staff and volunteers during his short stay at the AWLA. This handsome orange boy made friends wherever he went and played like a kitten. His favorite thing of all though was cuddling with his friends, and now he’s doing just that with a family of his own.

Gracie, formerly Oscarelle, 12 years old, was a pup who proved that seniors still have spunk! This little lady has a big personality, a big bark and a big love of play. After coming to our shelter as a stray, Gracie now has a family to call her own.

Even though November is coming to an end, any month can be a great time to welcome a senior pet into your family. Meet all of our senior pets at AlexandriaAnimals.org/Adopt.
