AWLA Awarded Grey Muzzle Grant to Serve Senior Animals

We’re excited to announce that we were recently awarded a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization to support senior-aged dogs, like Bunny!

The Grey Muzzle Organization is dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescues, sanctuaries, and other nonprofits.

Northern Virginia has consistently been one of the more expensive areas to live in the U.S., and many Alexandria-area residents struggle to make ends meet for basic necessities, which do not include the needs of their pet or emergency medical needs for their pet. The grant from Grey Muzzle will allow us to provide emergency medical grants to senior dog families making less than $50,000 per year and provide specialty food and supplies for our AniMeals (senior-aged) clients with senior dogs. Both programs will help to keep senior dogs with their loving families, which is an AWLA priority.

Bunny and her mom have been Community Pet Pantry clients, receiving pet food when her mom needed some help. Bunny’s mom noticed she was not eating with her normal vigor and acting sick and lethargic. They reached out to us for help, and it was discovered that Bunny needed some urgent dental work. We were able to assist and get Bunny back to her favorite meals.

We are thrilled for all of the senior-aged pups (and their people) that will benefit from this generous grant! Thank you, Grey Muzzle!
