A Big Smile and a Bigger Heart Burr came to the AWLA in August of 2017, and we were sure he’d find his perfect family immediately. His face was never without a smile, and at eight years old, his energy level was fairly mellow even if his personality was outsized. Clear the Shelters was right around the corner and we …
Celebrate Pet Dental Health Month
Dental Problems Can Be a Silent Threat to Pets’ Health Zoo Zoo was a sweet 10-year-old Shih Tzu who found his way to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) last July. When he arrived, it was clear that he was in very poor condition. Not only was the 10-pound, gray-and-cream dog suffering from kidney disease but he also had …
Say Hi to Stevie!
When Stevie joined us in December, we thought he was blind and deaf. He was not responsive to people around him and was lethargic in his kennel. At 10 years old, this Skye terrier still had many good years in him, and we wanted to make sure he enjoyed them, so we moved him to one of our VIP suites …

The fact that she then wanted to follow her new …

Thank You for Your Support!
Thanksgiving is just one day and not nearly enough time to thank every person and organization who help us help Alexandria’s Animals. Over the next month, we will highlight just a few of those Animal Advocates, but today, we want to express how grateful we are to every one of you who make our efforts possible. Thank you to everyone …
