The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is assisted by a vibrant corps of wonderful volunteers who help with everything from dog walking and animal socializing to wildlife transport, administrative roles and even gardening. If you have a particular skill or interest, we’d love to have you on our team! We also have a variety of at-home volunteer opportunities, including website updates, data entry, sewing kennel curtains, and preparing enrichment toys and treats for the animals in our care.

Our volunteers work directly with our staff across every department as an essential part of our AWLA team. They make a HUGE difference for our animals, our organization and our community!
The AWLA’s amazing volunteers provide the support that we need to keep our animals happy and our shelter humming. Never afraid to roll up their sleeves and tackle a new task, our dedicated volunteers pitch in when and where they are needed most, whether it is assisting with high-profile events or folding the mountains of laundry generated every day. Every task is important, and we sincerely appreciate every volunteer who helps us make a difference at the AWLA and in our community!
