The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is proud to team up with NBC4 for the third annual Clear the Shelters event! This August 19, adoption fees for all animals will be waived as part of a nationwide initiative that seeks to help families find and adopt pets. Please note that all standard AWLA adoptions policies and procedures will apply during Clear the Shelters. We will be opening one hour early, at 11:00am, to accommodate all of our extra visitors.
Last year, we found homes for more than 60 animals as part of Clear the Shelters, and we hope to exceed that number this year. Along with dogs and cats, this year we expect to have rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, mice and more available for adoption at no cost. You can read more about what to consider when adopting a pet and welcoming a new pet into your home.
We will be joined by 2016 Vola Lawson Animal Champions VCA Animal Hospitals from both Alexandria and Old Town. We will also be hosting a bake sale and a yard sale in conjunction with Clear the Shelters. Donated pet supplies are available at a discount for new pet owners, and proceeds benefit the AWLA.
We are excited for the opportunity to reach new adopters through Clear the Shelters, but we also recognized that the care and treatment of our adoptable animals has real costs, such as medical exams and vaccinations, food, microchipping and more. Please consider pledging to Clear It Forward to help us defray some of these expenses, so we can continue to support of all of Alexandria’s adoptable animals.
You can choose to donate an amount per animal adopted or pledge a fixed amount to help us continue to assist all of our adoptable animals. All donors will be contacted by email on Monday, August 21, with information about the number of animals adopted and how to complete your donation. Please consider making your pledge now!
