Part of the AWLA’s role in operating the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter is taking in animals in need within the City of Alexandria. Some animals are brought to us when their family is no longer able to care for them; others are lost and stay safely with us while they wait to be reunited with their family; and in the case of Angel and her siblings, a local friend of animals found them in a cardboard box and knew they had to help.
This little crew of pups came to our shelter cold, dirty and still so young that they needed formula from a bottle, but our staff were ready with warm towels, heating pads and food for their empty stomachs.
The first step was a bath with warm towels waiting for each puppy. Staff and volunteers dried, warmed and cuddled each puppy to help them feel safe as they whined and whimpered in their new surroundings.
Once each puppy was clean and dry, they could only be begging for one thing:
Bellies full and warm in the arms of their new friends, one by one, each puppy nodded off for nap time.
Once they had been seen by our staff veterinarian and deemed to be out of medical danger, the puppies rejoined their siblings; now they are in the care of loving foster families until they are big enough to find families to call their own. Stay tuned for more pupdates from Angel and her siblings, including the big day of when they are ready to meet their new best friends.
