In 2024, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria impacted thousands of pets and pet parents through a wide variety of community programs. Beyond sheltering homeless pets and finding them loving homes, the AWLA has many programs that support our community, keeping pets right where they belong — with the people who love them! 

From life-saving surgeries, to pet supplies and nutritious food, to behavioral training sessions and so much more, the AWLA has worked hard to provide wraparound pet retention services to support Alexandria’s pets and people. We anticipate the need for these resources will be just as great in 2025!

Spring2Action is Alexandria’s biggest non-profit fundraising day of the year, and we’re asking you to join us today to help support Alexandria’s Animals. When you make a donation to Spring2Action, you help animals in need across the city:

• In need of a nutritious meal through our Animeals program, helping low-income senior citizens keep cherished pets by providing donations of food and other pet items
• In need of rabies vaccinations and other resources through our community Pet Care Fairs
• In need of spay or neuter surgeries to prevent unwanted litters
• In need of short-term care when owners experience emergencies, including housing loss and domestic issues
• In need of emergency or life-changing medical treatments

Between 11am and noon on April 25, the Mabine Fund at ACT for Alexandria will match donations up to $1,000 in an effort to help us gain the most donors and win extra funds from Spring2Action’s Midday Mania contest.

And through 11:59 on April 25, a generous anonymous donor has offered to match every dollar over $10,000 raised through Spring2Action — up to $5,000. That means if $15,000 is donated from the community, our anonymous donor will match $5,000 of those funds to make it $20,000!

24-Hour Online Event

Spring2ACTion is a 24-hour online event that encourages donors to contribute to Alexandria’s nonprofit organizations. Last year, ACT for Alexandria’s Spring2ACTion raised $1,337,493 in just 24 hours for 152 nonprofit organizations and awarded nearly $40,000 in additional prizes. The money raised funded a wide range of projects in Alexandria, including AWLA’s AniMeals program that partners with Alexandria Senior Services “Meals on Wheels” to deliver pet supplies to housebound individuals with pets.

On Wednesday, April 5, Alexandria will once again come together to support the nonprofit community that makes our city strong. Donations can be made to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria right here.

Already hopping with excitement, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria invites all of Alexandria’s Animals to enter an online contest, posting videos and photos of high-flying dogs, catapolting cats, high hopping rabbits and the like. The most popular photos and videos will be included in AWLA’s Spring2ACTion campaign video on April 5, a chance to be seen by 100,000 people!
