
Full Time Adoption Counselor (posted: January 29, 2010)
The Adoption Counselors are responsible for assisting the public on adoption-related concerns, and seeking to find appropriate homes, based on League policies and procedures, for as many adoptable animals as possible. The Adoption Counselors will also assist in carrying out recommendations made, and behavioral intervention plans, for making animals more adoptable. Specific duties may vary based on scheduling.
Prior shelter or rescue experience is strongly recommended. Applicants need reliable car and clean driving record. Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Formal animal-related training preferred. Must have understanding of basic animal care, behavior and treatment. Minimum of two years experience in a customer service or counseling environment preferred. Starting salary for this position is $12.60/hr.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is seeking applications for a Director of Development. The Director of Development is a member of senior staff and reports to the Executive Director. The Director of Development also works closely with the Director of Communications and Outreach to coordinate the scheduling and the scope of special events, e-fundraising communications, and outreach activities. Sage Fundraising serves as the donor database.
The Director of Development will serve as primary point of contact with direct mail firm on appeals and work with the Director of Communications and Outreach to coordinate scheduling and content of Spring and Fall Newsletters and Annual report; aggressively publicize United Way and Combined Federal Campaign enrollment; develop a strategy and plan to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors capable of major gifts and take first steps towards establishing a pro-active Planned Gifts program. Applicants should have experience in directing a comprehensive fundraising program. There is extensive contact with the public - good people skills are essential. EOE. Benefits are excellent.
