How Saving Taxes Can Save Animals in Your Community

There are many ways that you can donate to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) that can not only directly help animals in your community but also provide you with tax benefits.

#1. Itemize deductions for your income tax? You can help animals!

If yes, a gift to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria before the end of 2016 may entitle you to a charitable contribution deduction. The actual cost of the donation can be reduced by your tax savings based on your tax bracket. For example, if you are in a 33% tax bracket, the actual cost of a $100 donation is only $67!

Remember, donate before January 1, 2017 to take the deduction for 2016 taxes! Donate at www.alexandriaanimals.org/donate.

#2. Have stock you can donate?

By donating appreciating stock shares to the AWLA, you can deduct the full amount of the value of your shares on your taxes without paying any capital gains taxes. These donations are as good as cash to our organization, and will help us continue our work to help animals in need.

To find out how to make an investment in compassion by donating stock or mutual funds, contact the Speck-Caudron Investment Group of Wells Fargo at (703) 739-4536.

#3. Are you over 70.5 Years of Age and have an IRA?

Did you know that you now may roll over up to $100,000 annually from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to charity, such as the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, without being federally taxed today or paying estate taxes in the future? Congress signed the PATH Act on December 18th, 2015 which made this change.

Heirs often receive less than 50% of IRA assets that pass through estates. Transferring money from an IRA to a charity allows the charity to benefit 100% from this donation.

For more information on the IRA Charitable Rollover and how you can take advantage of it to help animals in your community, please AWLA’s Development team at development@alexandriaanimals.org or 703.746.5830.

Donations Help Us Care for Animals Like Mimi

AWLA - Found in the Potomac: Dog saved by Good SamaritanMimi was found exhausted and abandoned in the shallows of the Potomac River with severely diseased eyes and matted fur. With the presence of maggots and other skin issues, veterinarians spent two hours cleaning and treating the toy poodle, making her comfortable until she could be transferred to the AWLA. After several days of rest and continued care, Mimi made a full recovery, and is the picture of vitality.

AWLA - Mimi AdoptedOn Saturday, Mimi has found an amazing home! Now she gets a new beginning with a loving family!

AWLA treats, rehabilitates, and places more than 2,000 animals per year, providing a fresh start to many animals who, like Mimi, arrive at the shelter with unknown circumstances.

We are able to give animals like Mimi the treatment, care and time they each need to have happy lives because of donors like you. Please consider donating to the AWLA before January 1, 2017 for tax deductions for your 2016 taxes. Donate at AlexandriaAnimals.org/Donate
