Long-time cat residents find new homes

We had a cat-tastrophe brewing in our cat room late in November: We had multiple cats who had been here for over 6 months!

Tiger had been here the longest. He had been waiting for a new home since January and we couldn’t figure out why Tiger was having such a rough time. He was only four years old, and aside from needing a prescription food to manage urinary crystals, he was pretty healthy. He could be a little shy at first, like most cats, but was very sweet once he had a chance to warm up. Even better, his adoption fee was paid by a donor through our Adopt It Forward program. Some of our staff put Tiger’s picture in their e-mail signatures to help find him a home, we featured him in a video, post about him on Facebook, but Tiger was still waiting. We were worried he’d be here for the new year!

Sofia hadn’t been here quite as long as Tiger, but having arrived in April, she had crossed the 6-month mark. 8 year old Sofia loved people and having her head scratched, but had very strong feelings about having her hind-end or tummy touched, so she needed an adopter who would listen to her body language cues and respect her boundaries. Our friend Dr. Katy Nelson‘s kids started a band with their friends to raise money for animals and generously donated Sofia’s adoption fee through our Adopt It Forward program. (How cool is that?!) The owner of KitNipBox also donated a 3-month subscription to Sofia’s adopters to make sure they had plenty of goodies to help make Sofia comfortable. We hoped it was just a matter of time before we found her a great home where she’d get lots of head-scratches (and no unwanted belly rubs, thank you very much!).

Finally, after long waits for both of them, both Tiger and Sofia found homes! Tiger was adopted on November 27, 2015 and Sofia was adopted on December 6, 2015. We are so happy for them and wish them the best in their new homes!

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is committed to giving every animal as long as they need to find their new homes.
